BREATHE

Breathing is the simplest of activities yet many of us breathe in a dysfunctional way that hinders our day to day health and wellness and can have dramatic impacts on our athletic performance.

Whilst breathwork is a relatively niche area of the health and fitness world it is growing in popularity and becoming ever more widespread due to the likes of Wim Hof, Dan Brule and Patrick McKeown, three of the current breathwork guru’s who have helped bring the practice into the mainstream media.

By consciously working on your breathing and ensuring you are breathing in a functional way for your activity you can see dramatic improvements in your athletic performance in terms of endurance, strength and power. You can also improve your sleep, reduce stress levels and more.

My own breathwork practice has seen me fall in love with cold water therapy. By learning to control my breath in the stressful situation of cold water I have spent the last few winters sitting in the shallows of Brockwell Lido and in an ice bath at home. Calming my mind and body through my breath has allowed me to get the numerous benefits that come through exposure to the cold, something I hated before studying the Wim Hof Method.
